A URL LENGTHENER THAT MAKES YOU READ MORE
CONTEXT & IDEA
Young people don’t like to read, especially online where every word is shortened whenever possible.
Sharing URLs is one of the few moments when they deal with words. Platforms like Twitter limit the number of characters, and they are forced to use URL Shortener services to make those links smaller.
As a bookstore we stand by our words. So we wanted to do the opposite by creating a fun and simple service that would at least bring them a smile: URLiteratu.re, the URL “Lengthener” that turns the link you want to share into a media that promotes reading.
A platform with an easy-to-remember URL where:
1. Users could paste the URL they want to share.
2. Choose one of our books to promote in their URL.
3. Get their new link, full of words from one of the pages of the book they chose.
When shared, their friends will go exactly to the webpage they wanted to send them, but with a message from Respublica and a link to buy the book on the top of the page, letting them know where that big URL came from.
Without any promotion, we got almost 15,000 unique visitors within 2 weeks, more than 20,000 page views, a PR worth of $18,000 and hundreds of thousands of generated URLs promoting our books and brand. For a $200 project, that’s the biggest profit we ever had in an advertising campaign.
